Telefonnotiz telc B2 Beruf: Templates, Samples & Exam Traps
Updated: · LexDeutsch editorial team
In the "Hören und Schreiben" part, scrambled phone numbers, missed deadlines or incomplete forms quickly cost points. Learn how to record every business call accurately.

What goes into a telephone note?
The exam form has the fields Name, Kontakt/Telefon, weitere Informationen and "zu erledigen". A complete phone note at work contains these entries:
1. For / Recipient
First and last name of the colleague including department (e.g., Mr. Weber, Purchasing).
2. Date & Time
Exact date and the timestamp when the incoming call took place.
3. Caller & Organization
Full caller name and company name (e.g., Spedition Meyer & Söhne).
4. Callback Number
Phone or mobile number including extension code. Watch out for digit order.
5. Reason for Calling
Precise subject line in keywords (e.g., Delivery delay order 4892).
6. Urgency & Deadlines
By when must the colleague call back? (e.g., urgently by 4:00 PM).
7. Core Details
Quantities, changed appointments, reference numbers, delivery notes.
8. Recorded By
Your name as the memo taker in case the recipient has questions.
What listening traps come up in phone calls?
1. The Spoken Self-Correction ("Wait, hold on!")
The caller initially proposes Tuesday, but then corrects themselves mid-sentence: "Oh wait, I will be in Munich on Tuesday, let us make it Thursday instead." Taking notes too early produces false information.
2. German Number Order Confusion
German number phrasing (units before tens: "dreiundfünfzig" = 53) and similar area codes easily confuse non-native speakers under exam stress.
3. Subjunctive (Konjunktiv II) vs. Binding Decisions
Pay close attention to hypothetical musings ("We could possibly take 50 units...") versus final contractual instructions ("We definitively order 30 units").
4. Wrong Communication Channel
Does the caller demand a phone callback or simply an email confirmation? Noting "callback" when an email was requested costs the point.

Frequently asked questions
What goes into a telephone note?
In the exam you fill in the fields Name, Kontakt/Telefon, weitere Informationen and "zu erledigen". At work you also add who the note is for, date and time, the company, urgency and deadline, and who took the note. If the deadline is missing or the number is transposed, the note is useless.
Do you write a telephone note in full sentences or keywords?
In keywords. Full sentences take too much time while you listen; what matters is that numbers, names, times and the requested action are written down clearly and legibly.
What if I cannot catch the caller’s surname exactly?
Write the name as you hear it and focus on the other facts. For the note, what counts most is that the callback number, reason and deadline are right.
What listening traps come up in phone calls?
The most common are self-corrections (“Oh no, let’s say Thursday”), transposed numbers such as dreiundfünfzig = 53, the difference between a Konjunktiv II idea and a firm decision, and whether a callback or an email is wanted.
How do I write down numbers and phone numbers correctly?
Write numbers down as digits straight away. German says the units before the tens (“fünfundvierzig” = 45), so digits get swapped easily; also compare similar area codes such as 0171 and 0172.
How is the telephone note marked in telc B2 Beruf?
The telephone note is the "Hören und Schreiben" part (5 minutes); you hear the message only once. The question about the reason for the call (a, b or c) gives 3 points in Listening; the form entries are marked right or wrong and give up to 6 points in Writing.
