Sprachbausteine B2 Beruf Exercises with Answers: Exam-Style Cloze Tests & Explanations

How do you solve Language Elements in 3 steps?

1

Determine Clause Type & Function

Read the full sentence from period to period. Decide what part of speech is missing before looking at the choices: noun, verb, participle, or connector?

2

Scan Signal Words & Valencies

Identify triggers: Which preposition precedes the gap? What case does the verb govern? Is there a subordinating conjunction requiring final verb order?

3

Process of Elimination & Plausibility Check

Rule out grammatically impossible options instantly. Insert the best choice and verify sentence rhythm and legal business logic.

Which traps are hidden in the Language Elements?

1. Vocabulary Confusion Trap (typical of Part 2)

Near-synonyms like "unterbreiten", "einreichen", and "beantragen" sound similar to non-native speakers. However, German business conventions permit only one exact collocation per scenario.

2. Case Errors with Genitive Prepositions

Prepositions like "aufgrund", "während", and "trotz" require the genitive case. The options often include a dative form that sounds colloquially familiar but is wrong.

3. Verb-Final Position in Subordinate Clauses

Whenever a gap occurs in a "dass", "wenn", or "weil" clause, the finite verb must appear at the very end of the sentence.

4. Mixed Adjective Endings after Possessives

Adjective declension after possessives ("Ihr", "unser") frequently trips learners up. Neuter accusative requires -es ("für Ihr großes Vertrauen"), while masculine accusative takes -en.
