Sprachbausteine telc B2 Beruf Training und Grammatik

How are the Language Elements in B2 Beruf structured?

Together with the forum post, the language elements form the last subtest of the written exam, "Sprachbausteine und Schreiben" (35 minutes). They assess precise competence in workplace German:

12 gaps in 2 parts: Part 1 with 6 gaps and 10 words (a–j), Part 2 with 6 gaps and 3 options each (a, b, c). Our guideline: about 10 minutes, so enough time is left for the forum post.
Scoring: each correct gap earns 0.5 points, 6 points in total. They count towards writing (60 points), not reading.
No negative marking: never leave any gap unmarked on the answer sheet.
Core B2 targets: prepositional verbs, noun-verb idioms, connectors and passive alternatives.
Step-by-step solution

How do you solve Part 1 and Part 2?

Teil 1

Workplace Text & Word Bank (a–j)

approx. 5 minutes (LexDeutsch guideline)counts towards Writing (6 × 0.5 points)

Exam format

A workplace text (usually a letter or email) with 6 gaps. From a box of 10 words (a to j) you insert the 6 that fit; 4 words are left over. It mainly tests connectors, prepositions and fixed phrases.

Strategy

Part-of-Speech Filter: determine the grammatical function of each gap (connector, preposition, noun, verb or adverb) before checking the box. Look for collocations in full sentences.

Typical exam trap

The Domino Effect: prematurely assigning a word to gap 2 deprives gap 5 of its only correct option, causing a double error. Mark uncertain gaps with a question mark and check them at the end.

Exercise in exam format

Excerpt from a formal complaint letter: "Dear Sir or Madam, we refer to your delivery of March 14. Unfortunately, we found substantial defects in the office components. We therefore request that you promptly execute a [31]..."

Which noun-verb collocations do you need for B2 Beruf?

Fixed noun-verb collocations come up again and again in the telc B2 Beruf Language Elements and earn reliable points:

Frequently asked questions

How are the Language Elements in telc B2 Beruf structured?

There are 2 parts with 6 gaps each. In Part 1 you match words from a box of 10 words (a–j) to the gaps, and 4 words are left over; in Part 2 you choose one of three options (a, b, c) per gap in a business letter. Both parts belong to the subtest "Language Elements and Writing" (35 minutes), together with the forum post.

How are the Language Elements scored?

Each correct gap earns 0.5 points, 6 points in total; they count towards the writing skill (60 points), not reading. You pass with at least 144 of 240 points in total and at least 36 of 60 in at least three of the four skills; one weaker skill is compensated if it has 24–35 points.

How do I avoid the domino effect in the word bank (Part 1)?

Only commit answers once you have read the whole text, and mark uncertain words with a question mark first. If a word seems to fit two gaps, compare part of speech and collocation in both sentences.

Do I need C1 grammar for the Language Elements?

No. The test checks solid B2 knowledge: verbs with fixed prepositions, adjective endings, relative pronouns with prepositions, passive substitutes such as "sein + zu + infinitive" and two-part connectors.

Can I solve the gaps in any order?

Yes. Solve the obvious collocations such as "zur Verfügung stellen" or "Bezug nehmen auf" first; that leaves fewer words in the word bank for the difficult gaps.

What if I run out of time for the last gaps?

Never leave a gap blank: wrong answers do not cost points. Cross out the least likely option and choose between the remaining ones.
